eSIM compatible phones: the full list

Two things must be true before any travel eSIM will work: your phone has the eSIM hardware, and it is carrier-unlocked. Here is the 60-second check for both, then the complete device list.

iPhone check

  1. 1. Settings → General → About
  2. 2. Look for Available SIM or Digital SIM
  3. 3. See it? You support eSIM.

Android check

  1. 1. Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
  2. 2. Look for Add eSIM / Download a SIM instead
  3. 3. Or dial *#06#: an EID number means yes.
The trap that catches most people: eSIM hardware is not enough. A carrier-locked phone (bought on contract or installments) rejects all foreign SIMs. Ask your carrier for an unlock before the trip; it is usually free once the phone is paid off, and it can take a few days to process.

Apple iPhone

Every iPhone since 2018 supports eSIM. US-market iPhone 14 and newer are eSIM-only with no physical SIM tray at all.

  • iPhone XR, XS, XS Max (2018)
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2020 and 2022)
  • iPhone 12 series (all models)
  • iPhone 13 series (all models)
  • iPhone 14 series (all models)
  • iPhone 15 series (all models)
  • iPhone 16 series (all models)
  • iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air (all models)

Samsung Galaxy

Flagships from the S20 onward support eSIM. Watch out: some carrier-specific and budget A-series models skip it, so run the settings check.

  • Galaxy S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 series
  • Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold (all generations)
  • Galaxy Z Flip (all generations)
  • Galaxy A54, A55 and newer A-series (region dependent)

Google Pixel

The longest eSIM track record on Android. Every Pixel since the Pixel 3 supports it, and setup is the smoothest in the Android world.

  • Pixel 3, 3a and newer
  • Pixel 4, 4a, 5, 5a
  • Pixel 6, 6a, 6 Pro
  • Pixel 7, 7a, 7 Pro
  • Pixel 8, 8a, 8 Pro
  • Pixel 9 and 10 series (all models)

Other brands

Support arrived later and less consistently outside the big three. These lines generally include it; budget models often do not.

  • Motorola Razr foldables, Edge series (2022 onward)
  • OnePlus 11 and newer (region dependent)
  • Xiaomi 13, 14, 15 series (global models)
  • Oppo Find X3 and newer flagships
  • Nothing Phone (2) and newer
  • Huawei P40 series (no Google services, note the app limitations)

Compatibility questions, answered

How do I check if my iPhone supports eSIM?

Open Settings, then General, then About. If you see a section called Available SIM or Digital SIM with an IMEI listed, your iPhone supports eSIM. Every iPhone from the XR and XS (2018) onward has it, so in practice any iPhone from the last several years qualifies.

How do I check eSIM support on Android?

Open Settings, then Network & internet, then SIMs (wording varies by brand). If you see an option like Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead, you are supported. You can also dial *#06#: if an EID number appears alongside the IMEI, the phone has an eSIM chip.

Why does my eSIM-capable phone refuse to install a travel eSIM?

The usual culprit is carrier lock. A phone bought on an installment plan or contract is often locked to that carrier, and locked phones reject all foreign SIMs, embedded or plastic. Contact your carrier for an unlock; most unlock free once the device is paid off. Test before your trip, not at the airport.

Do phones bought in China support eSIM?

Mostly no. Mainland Chinese regulations mean phones sold there, including iPhones, typically ship without consumer eSIM support or with it disabled. Phones bought in Hong Kong are a separate case and generally do support eSIM. If your phone is a mainland Chinese model, plan on a physical SIM.

Can I use eSIM and my physical SIM at the same time?

Yes, that is the whole point for travelers. Dual SIM Dual Standby means your home SIM stays active for calls and OTP texts while the travel eSIM carries data. Both show in your status bar, and you choose which line handles data in settings.

Does eSIM support depend on the country where I use it?

No. eSIM support is a hardware feature of your phone, not of the destination. If your unlocked phone supports eSIM, it can install a travel eSIM for any country. What varies by destination is plan pricing and network quality, which our country guides cover.
